Black Canyon National Park
If you are new to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, be assured that you have never seen anything like it! What makes the Black Canyon so memorable is not only its depth or overall size, but its unmatched ratio of width to depth - at 2,250’, the Black Canyon boasts Colorado’s highest cliff (1,000’ higher than the Empire State Building)!
How to get there: Go south of Crawford on Highway 92, take your first right - on Black Canyon Road - just past the Crawford State Park Reservoir, and follow the signs. The final several miles of road are unpaved and can become “wash boarded” at certain times of the year. The Park has an official entrance fee of $15 per private passenger vehicle.
The road is normally closed between late November and early April.

Camping
Between May and October 13 camping sites are available in a very nice campground with the following features:
- vault toilets,
- fire rings,
- BBQ grills and water.
- There are no RV hookups and vehicles larger than 35’ are discouraged.
- Sites are available on a first come, first served basis, for a maximum stay of 14 days.
- Site rates are $12 per night
